Othello
Othello is a strategic two-player board game where the objective is to have the most discs of your color on the board at the end of the game.
Game Setup
- Board and Pieces: Othello is played on an 8x8 board with 64 squares. Each player has 32 discs, one side black and the other white.
Objective
The goal of Othello is to have the majority of your color discs on the board when no more legal moves are possible.
Gameplay Rules
- Starting Game: The player with the black discs always goes first.
- Taking Turns: Players alternate turns, placing one disc of their color on an empty square. A placed disc must surround at least one of the opponent's discs, meaning it must be placed in such a way that it sandwiches one or more of the opponent's discs between two of the player's own discs.
- Flipping Discs: When a player successfully surrounds the opponent's discs, they flip the discs to their own color. This can happen in any direction: horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Passing Turns: If a player cannot make a legal move (i.e., they cannot surround any of the opponent's discs), they must pass the turn. However, if a move is available, they cannot forfeit their turn.
- End of the Game: The game ends when neither player can make a legal move, usually when the board is full or both players pass consecutively. The player with the most discs of the color on the board wins.
